UNFPA Launches No Hoodie, No Honey Campaign On Safer Sex

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Nigria, has launched a social media campaign, No Hoodie No Honey to target young people especially girls with information and skills on safer sex.

Ms Adeola Olunloyo, BCC/Advocacy Program Analyst for UNFPA Nigeria, disclosed this to participants at the third Family Planning Pre-Conference Event which held at the Reiz Continental Hotel in Abuja.

No Hoodie, No Honey was launched by the organization to encourage and empower girls aged 15-24 with accurate information and skills to practice safer sex. With targeted youth on social media, the campaign tends to reach youths and inform them on Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) information. The campaign also contains a five minute 3D animation video designed to stimulate discussions about the discomfort girls face to initiate and negotiate condom use with their partners and ways they can overcome it.

While evidence shows that about half of young girls are sexually active by age 18, the No Hoodie, No Campaign was established by the UNFPA to empower them with information and skills to avoid Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) problems that can sabotage their future.

The campaign also advocates for change in cultural perceptions and beliefs to give girls the freedom and capacity to negotiate safer sex and boys must also be actively engaged to support the paradigm shift.
