Nigeria: Young Leaders Pledge to Advocate for Education via #1Million Gift of Literacy Campaign

AYECI Africa, a non-profit organisation in Nigeria seeking to expand access to education and employment opportunities for undeserved women and young people have assigned Cool FM’s OAP Rosemary Ajuka and Digital Media Sensation, Kenneth Kolo Kadiri as the Star Crusaders for its #1Million Gift of Literacy Campaign from August – October 2015.

Created in 2014, the 1Million Gift of Literacy Campaign was launched with a goal to help 1,000,000 educationally disadvantaged women and young people in West Africa communities get access to literacy training and early learning resource materials by Sept 2019.

Kenneth and Rosemary both confirmed their commitment to use their status and influence to draw attention to the literacy needs of over 30Million women and children in Nigeria as well as put a spotlight on the #1Million Gift of Literacy Campaign.

“I am really pleased to be a part of the #1Million Gift of Literacy Campaign and I am looking forward to working with AYECI Africa to accomplish the set out goals,” said Kenneth.

Ifeoma Adibe-Chukwuka, Founder AYECI Africa, said Kenneth and Rosemary are just suitable for the campaign.

“To begin with, they deeply care about the welfare of young people and women as shown in their work and other personal efforts. They are both role models to scores of young people who are inspired by the impact they are making in their respective careers. Most importantly they have committed to bring the same passion and enthusiasm to draw attention to the literacy issues affecting millions of women and children in Nigeria” said Ifeoma.

Rosemary says literacy is a gift no one should be denied. She welcomed her appointment by saying she will play her part in ensuring that the right messages are communicated in support of the Gift of Literacy Campaign.

In the last month, the Star Crusaders have been engaged in producing Advocacy Ads that would be featured in prominent online media platforms to create awareness and encourage mass support for the campaign.  In addition to these Star Crusaders, AYECI Africa will welcome other advocates, volunteers and organizations who would be interested in supporting the campaign.
