Breaking: Rascality As 7 PDP Lawmakers Impeach Ekiti Speaker Adewale Omirin

Seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the Ekiti House of Assembly have elected Honorable Dele Olugbemi as the new Speaker of the House.

Meanwhile, 19 other lawmakers elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the substantive speaker, Adewale Omirin, were absent from the proceedings as they gather in Lagos to host World Press Conference.

Omirin, condemned the action of the seven PDP lawmakers, describing it as illegal and abuse of the constitution.

Omirin, however reiterate that he still remains Speaker of the Ekiti House of Assembly.

 

Speaker Tambuwal, Others, Resist Attempt By Security Operatives To Seal Off Entrance To Legislative Chamber

Violence erupts at the premises of the National Assembly today as policemen and SSS operatives stopped the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwa, from entering the legislative chamber.

Security operatives sealed off all entry points leaving only one entrance open to members. The tear-gassed speaker was shielded by about forty members of the House from being whisked away by security operatives.

Honorable members across party line and national divide, with the aide of staff members finally made their way into the Chamber after forcing the door open.

It could be recalled that the Speaker called for special session today to enable the House consider President Goodluck Jonathan’s request that the National Assembly extend emergency rule in three northeast states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe hit by Boko Haram insurgents.

Early Thursday morning, a large number of SSS personnel took over the National Assembly complex and sealed off all entry points leaving only one open where everyone going in is thoroughly frisked and many, turned back.

 

I Will Not Dump APC- Atiku

Former Vice-President and a Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has said he will not dump the party should he fail to secure the Presidential ticket.

Atiku, made this promise yesterday in Benin, the Edo State capital, at a meeting with some party leaders to solicit the support of Edo delegates to the primaries.

The Presidential aspirant said his experience in government triggered him to vie for the Presidency. He said further that his wealth of democratic experience and entrepreneurial capability has set him apart from other candidates.

His words: “My reason for seeking the presidential ticket, most importantly, is to serve. I have a passion for service and I do not intend to give up on Nigeria. There is nothing going on in the country, whether it is security or economy.”
