Empowering Nigerians To Effectively Track Budget Allocations

Follow The Money, a project run by Connected Development (CODE), was in Gutsau Zamfara state, to engage Civil Society Organizations (CSO), journalists and the government on a two days training at Zakat Endowment Board on the use of ‘Data’ from ‘The School Of Data’.

Led by Oludotun Babayemi, a co-founder of CODE and a member of the School Of Data, the participants were taught on how to track government funds allocated to education to encourage transparency in the system at both state and federal levels and the challenges encountered in trying to track funds.

While sharing his experience at the training, Mr Joels T. Abaver JP, the president of non-indigenes in Zamfara state and the Executive Director of the Christian Voice Initiative and Awareness of Nigeria, said, “We are beginning to develop a very good mind set on what tracking of budget is all about and I’m glad to be here as I have learnt a lot on budget.”

As a young female journalist, Happiness has a keen interest in rural growth and development, as it affects the lives of children, girls and women. She currently covers grassroots stories from rural communities in Northern Nigeria. Happiness Titus Zirra ventured into Journalism as a member of the Press Club Niger State College of Education. She served as the 'Editor-in-Chief' for one academic year and also served as a reporter. She was awarded a certificate of attendance on News reporting and News writing by Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger state council and also a certificate by Press Club,Niger State College of Education Minna.
