Educating The World, One Girl At A Time

As part of an effort to mark this year’s international day of the girl child, “Reachout22”, a grassroots organization put together a special programme for girls in the Araromi area of Lagos State, in line with the United Nations theme “Empowering Adolescent girls: Ending the circle of violence.”

“Girls are very valuable to the society, because we are the mothers of the nation,” says Favour John, a volunteer at reachout22.

The reachout22 community programme has empowered many girls in the Ajeromi community, by exposing them to educational opportunities, including after-school tutoring.

Speaking on the purpose of reachout22, the Convener- Omoyele Isaac Success explain that the community is faced with high level of illiteracy.

“In this community, there are many adolescent girls who get pregnant the moment they start to grow breast and this is why we organized this programme to catch them young.”

“We come to this community every Saturday to teach the kids how to read and write, because the important of education can not be overemphasized.

“Aside teaching them how to read and write, we are here to mentor them, making them believe in themselves.”

The group has been helping children in the Ajeromi society and young People within and outside the community volunteer to help the children get additional help with school work.

“I am excited that we are educating Children in this society and there are still kids who are lacking behind, I want them to know there important in the society,” says Ebere Chinansa, another Volunteer.

Isaac made it known that the group major challenge is the lack of manpower and funds. But this has not deterred them.

“We want to put every child in School and we want them to know their value in the society,” he said.
