COMMUNITY WATCH: NGO EMPOWERS SCHOOL PREFECTS IN OYO, NIGERIA

World Changers Development Initiative, a Non Government has empowered about 72 school prefects through its 2014 School Prefects/ Leadership Conference in Ibadan with the theme “leading for lasting Change”.

The event, which took place at the American corner, Ibadan had participants drawn from schools like Chancery international school, All Souls High school, Atanda International High school, Fountain of Knowledge college, Sharon Rose Colege, Saki among others

In her opening remarks, Mrs Scott-Emuakpor ,the centre manager for The American corner Ibadan welcomed all participants and elaborated services of the American Corner ,while encouraging these emerging global leaders to take full advantage of the services.

Mr Lapinni Akinyemi ,the Executive Director of the NGO said the primary objective of the conference was to give student leaders an opportunity to learn, develop and practice skills for life. It will also Increased their confidence, motivation and their social skills. Through this conference, the students leaders were equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform their roles. Besides increasing their awareness of the expectations of a student leader (their roles, responsibilities and qualities) .Participants also increase their understanding on Time management , goal setting, leadership skills, Team building, Entrepreneurship, managing and resolving conflicts.

In appreciation, one of the participants, Oloyede Ayomide expressed appreciation to the NGO , while calling on the government and other corporate organisations to support future editions of this initiative to prepares students to become effective leaders.

Facilitators at the event includes Mr.Dayo Moronkeji, publisher of Dagista Magazine, Mr sola Fagorusi, the Executive Director, OneLife Initiative, Mr Wale Adeboye, the Executive Director, Terrorism Research Initiative, Mr Lasisi Olusegun of Trioses Cambridge Academy and Mr Tunde Ogunsesan of the Nigerian Tribune Newspapers while the event enjoyed support from De-United foods, Producers of Indomie Noodles, Sweetco, Triumphant Assembly and other corporate bodies.
